After a lengthly two-year search, the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) on Wednesday named long-time seafood executive Brian Perkins as its new regional director of the Americas.

The new appointment came along with a restructuring of the Americas region, putting more manpower behind outreach in North America in particular.

CEO Rupert Howes, who will oversee Perkins in his new role, spoke with IntraFish about the appointment, the lengthy search, and the opportunity for expansion in the region.

IntraFish: Why did the process for hiring the MSC Americas director take so long?

Rupert Howes: It was important for us to find the right person for the role.
