The company, which employed over 3,000 staff around the peak Christmas period, would normally cut back around this time of year by around 400 people, said Steven Rafferty, CFO of Morpol.
This increased reduction in headcount is due to the need to “reduce our overheads, given our decreased margins,” he told IntraFish.
“We were growing at 20 percent a quarter and we took on more staff over Christmas to produce more labor intensive products,” said Rafferty.
Morpol, like other salmon processors, has been suffering with the high prices for salmon.
Its
