Morocco’s Halieutis strategy, launched in 2009, is an ambitious plan to develop the country’s fisheries sector by modernizing and improving standards across the board, and creating an additional 20,000 jobs.
With fishing already an important export sector, the Halieutis plan also expects to see fishing exports doubled to $235 million (€180.6 million) by the 2020 target date, while working to responsible and environmental lines.
Pre-assessment is already in progress towards MSC certification of the Moroccan sardine fishery with its million metric tons potential.
