Due to "unavoidable delays" in the latter report preparation stages, the reassessment "cannot be completed within the timeframe of the current certificationm," said Moody Marine, the third-party certifier conducting the five-year reassessment to see whether the fishery still meets the standards necessary to use the MSC eco-label.
Following discussions with the MSC the existing certificate is extended up to the end of August to "cover the continuity of supply from the fishery while the assessment is completed," said Moody Marine.
This variation is conditional upon the following facts Moody Marine confirms to be accurate:
- the fishery has made the improvements required by the conditions set in the current certification;
- the fishery continues to be compliant with the MSC standard;
- the current draft report for the fishery recommends continued certification;
- the fishery will continue to comply with the existing certificate until the reassessment process is complete.
