A total of 17 salmon producers are so far certified under the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) standard, producing a total of 18,600 metric tons of salmon annually.
Four of these 17 farms belong to the Australian salmon producer Tassal. Most of the certified farms are located in Norway, where Leroy Aurora has six ASC farms, Leroy Midt has one, Villa Organic also has one, and Marine Harvest four.
Cermaq also has a farm certified in Chile.
Another 22 farms are waiting to gain certification, including 13 in Norway.
