Monday saw Norwegian Fisheries Minister Elisabeth Aspaker announce a 5 percent hike in the output of Norwegian salmon farms if they meet stricter regulations on sea lice.
At the same time, the government dropped proposals to make the maximum allowed biomass limit into a rolling monthly average limit -- an idea that has been reviewed and debated since last autumn.
The reaction to the announcements was mixed.
Cermaq is naturally enough happy that the proposal on rolling maximum permitted biomass (MPB) won't be implemented. Together with Marine Harvest it was one of the biggest opponents to the change.
