Monday's bid by Mitsubishi Corporation for Norwegian fish farming firm Cermaq opened the door for a debate on foreign ownership in the country -- and views differ widely.

Geir Ove Ystmark, managing director of the Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL), said he doesn’t have any comment about the specific sale of Cermaq, the ownership or valuation of the company.

“Generally we’re open for there being open opportunity for foreign investment in the Norwegian aquaculture industry," he told IntraFish.

"Norwegian companies have a long tradition of investing abroad, in both fisheries and marine farming.
