The Mexican government has pledged a total of MXN 185 million (€10.1 million/$13.9 million) to the main shrimp producing regions of Sonora, Sinaloa and Nayarit in a bid to get the new season off to a good start.

Mario Gilberto Sanchez Aguilar, head of the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA) announced shrimp farmers will be given MXN 140 million (€7.7 million/$10.6 million) to buy seedstock for the 2014 season and help alleviate the effects of the health epidemic affecting the sector, reported Kioscomayor.com.
