The harvest numbers for Pacific wild Mexican shrimp haven’t been good and it doesn’t appear the price of the beloved seafood is going to drop anytime soon, according to Harry Mahleres, director of purchasing for US seafood supplier Seattle Fish Co.

“There’s no relief in sight for shrimp prices,” Mahleres told IntraFish.

When the Mexican wild shrimp season opened in the Sea of Cortez last month, buyers and sellers were hopeful the harvest would help boost dwindled global supplies and ease prices, following outbreaks of early mortality syndrome (EMS) in Asian and Central American countries.
