The 38-year-old CEO and founder of Houston's Mexilink sells several products that he says are "by far" the top brands in his native Mexico -- from tuna fish to hair gel.

"Most of the products are the No. 1 sellers in Mexico, by far," Escalona said, with candies, fruit seasonings and bottled water he imports from Mexico piled in front of him.

The company had about $29 million (€19.8 million) in revenue last year through selling a dozen Mexican brands including Veladora Mexico religious candles, Dolores tuna fish and Encanto corn chips, primarily to Mexican immigrants.
