Metro AG, the world's fourth largest retailer in revenue, won’t go out of its way to market or explain an Alaska salmon eco-label to its consumers, the retailer said.
German shoppers have faith in the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) label, and Metro will keep its focus on the MSC as its label of choice, a Metro executive said.
“Alaskan salmon suppliers can be sure that we will not take on more work and explain to our customers that we have a second label for a wild fish management certification system,” Juergen Matern, Metro AG’s global vice president of sustainability and regulatory affairs, told IntraFish.
