Mercadona, which had sales of €15.5 billion ($21.5 billion) in 2009 and a net profit of €270 million ($375.3 million), will absorb Caladero’s plant in Zaragoza, Spain as one of its MAP seafood suppliers, sources said. The plant is believed to be one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Caladero, which had sales of €548 million ($761.7 million) in 2009, will continue to supply Mercadona with fresh fish with its other 14 plants in Spain, but will no longer have any control over the plant or involvement in the supply of MAP trays to Mercadona, one source told IntraFish.
