French salmon smoker and seafood producer Meralliance will start offering storage and cold chain services to third parties on a large-scale commercial basis.

Sealed by the creation of a new subsidiary, Meralliance Logistique, the idea is to exploit up to 85 percent to 90 percent of Meralliance’s logistical capacity compared to the current rate of 50 percent -- 75 percent during Christmas -- the new subsidiary’s director Laurent Jamier said.

“Today we handle 70,000 cartons per week for Meralliance products in low season, and 250,000 in high season.
