In Norway’s counties, the salmon industry’s focus has long been on smolt production capacity. Recently, producer Edmund Broback, who heads Norwegian Seafood Federation’s (FHL) production committee, told IntraFish there could be scarcity in the country as a whole. In counties such as Troms and Finnmark, there is a shortage already.
“Smolt production is limited due to a lack of capacity. Smolt producers have a potential in recycling. There are developments in process now, but we don’t have a solution in place as yet,” Broback said.
