A last-ditch attempt to find a solution for the ongoing Marine Stewardship Council certificate sharing dispute between two groups of Alaska salmon processors has failed, according to Stefanie Moreland of Trident Seafoods.

"The parties were unable to reach a certificate sharing agreement through mediation," she said.

Mediation between the Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA), the current owners of the MSC Alaska salmon fishery certificate, and a group of some of the state's largest processors led by Trident Seafoods began Monday in Seattle.

The Trident-led group was hoping ASPA would let it share the certificate, which would have allowed the group the ability to market this year's catch using the MSC eco-label.
