The much talked about acquisition of Morpol by salmon farming giant Marine Harvest dominated news all of December, and for a good reason: When two companies of such heft merge, the impact is long-lasting and felt across the business value chain.
“My biggest concern is that [Jerzy] Malek will not play an active part anymore,” said Peter Bamberger, chairman of the Danish Seafood Association, referring to the founder of the Polish processor who directed the company’s upward drive.
“I am not sure if significant expansion is possible for Morpol in the future, as Marine Harvest will be selling to other smokers as well…there needs to be a controlled process of competition,” Bamberger told IntraFish.
