Marine Harvest will be halving production at its Torgerhaugen site after receiving a warning from the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (NFSA) that lice levels have been excessive over a longer period of time.
The reduction will not, however, have any impact on the company’s total production volume.
“The industry’s biggest challenge lies in reducing lice levels," Marine Harvest Communications Director Ola Helge Hjetland told IntraFish.
The Torgerhaugen site has a site maximum permitted biomass (MPB) of 3,900 metric tons. Halving production at this site will not affect company production volume, according to Hjetland.
