Norwegian salmon giant Marine Harvest is seeking 14 development licenses to test and develop new closed farm technology created by Hauge Aqua.

The technology is based on the closed construction 'egg' concept, a closed technology that is 44 meters high, 33 meters wide and 90 percent of the structure will be submerged.

Each egg will eventually be able to accommodate 1,000 metric tons of salmon.

The technology aims to tackle several major challenges for the industry, including lice and escapes.
