Members of the BC Salmon Farmers Association are gearing up to increase production in the next five years, with 15 farm applications or amendments submitted to the Canadian government, including two from Marine Harvest and two from Grieg.

However, neither of the top three Atlantic salmon producers in the area are actually increasing their production volume with these sites, but rather replacing sites that for whatever reason are currently not viable.

In the northern part of Vancouver Island, Marine Harvest Canada has been working to secure two new fish farm sites, in cooperation with the Tlatlasikwala First Nation, to produce 3,200 metrics tons from each site, according to Clare Backman, the company's director of public affairs.
