With more of its salmon coming to the United States, Marine Harvest is boosting production at its existing U.S. processing plant in Miami, and building a second facility in Los Angeles to meet what it expects to be burgeoning demand.

As production from Chile has slackened off due to infectious salmon anemia (ISA), farmed salmon companies from Norway have stepped in to fill the gap.

The decline in production from Chile “will be very visible from Q3 and onwards, perhaps a bit later than most people expected, as the industry in Chile has been able to ‘sell from stock’ after harvest volumes started really declining from about April," Jorgen Christiansen, communication director, told IntraFish on Monday.

“Our
