The plant, which is expected to re-open in March, is part of Marine Harvest Chile's new business plan, which includes an expansion of its smoked seafood division. The old plant was shut down in April.
The plant will operate under the Delifish name, Marine Harvest Chile CEO Alvaro Jimenez told IntraFish.
“We’ve started to work on retooling the Chinquihue plant and we’ll transfer machinery we currently have at a plant in Santiago. That plant has a construction area of 3,000 square meters, and Chinquihue in Puerto Montt will have 11,000 square meters, and it will, therefore, be the largest smokehouse in Chile,” Jimenez said.
