Production from Chile contributed to a large reduction in overall volumes, to 24,000 metric tons, a result of the depletion of the Chilean industry’s biomass due to the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus. Harvest volumes in Chile are expected to bottom out in 2010, the company said.

The price drop for North American-farmed salmon resulted from a strong increase in harvest volumes – to 33,300 metric tons -- and a somewhat larger wild catch volume available for the fresh market. Volumes distributed to the markets equaled the harvest in the quarter and totaled approximately 315,000 metric tons.
