The New Bedford, MA-based company is now headed up by John Turner, a former executive of venture capital fund Creo Capital Partners.
Turner, who has wide experience in venture capital and has worked on several turnarounds in the protein sector, took over as president of the company on June 6, after the individual behind Mar-Lees’ owner, Harbinger Seafoods, reportedly lost patience with the former management team.
“I would not characterize this as a turnaround. However, there is some work to be done,” Turner told IntraFish.
Harbinger bought into the scallop supplier in October 2010, with founder John Lees retaining a stake, thought to be around 20 percent.
