On the front lines of the seafood sector – where the processor meets the retail and foodservice buyer – traceability is one of the biggest concerns. Young's Seafood, the United Kingdom's largest seafood supplier, knows this better than most. The company has for years been focusing on ways to improve its traceability systems to better assure buyers that the fish they buy is safe, legal and traceable.
"We're looking for solutions," said Mike Mitchell, newly-appointed head of seafood sustainability in the FoodVest group, which owns both Young's and Swedish frozen foods firm Findus.
