The buyer, who spoke with IntraFish but asked not to be identified, said it's been very difficult dealing with the higher prices for seafood being caused by the falling dollar, which last week dipped to new lows against the euro, yen and Thai baht.
"If the dollar does not increase soon, I am afraid of what may happen to seafood sales," the buyer said.
The currency changes are changing the way his company is making purchases and dealing with suppliers, he said, and are causing him to search for alternative and new suppliers.
