Roger Albornoz, president of union No. 2 of Camanchaca’s Tome plant, told El Sur newspaper a second wave will take place this month, and the company has started to notify workers.

Enrique Sielfeld, Camanchaca’s manager, confirmed the situation and said around 1,000 employees will be laid off in the next 30 days. He said the plant was forced to cease operation because of the effects of the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus.

Laid off workers are elegible for government benefits, such as training courses through the National Training and Employment Department (SENCE), and unemployment insurance.
