Majestic Seafood expects to open its new $38 million tunaprocessing facility June 10 in Lae, Papua New Guinea, according to the Pacific Islands News Association.
The Malahang cannery, said company officials, is a state-of-the art tuna processing facility and is equipped with an advancedwaste disposal management system.
At optimal production, thefacility could employ 2,000 workers and process 350 metric tons of fresh tuna,making it the largest cannery in the country, the company said.
Papua New Guinea's port city of Lae is becoming the tuna hub of the Pacific.
