The certification process is under way and could take up to a year, Philip Walsh, director of business development for the Alfa Gamma Group (AGG), the firm applying for certification of the fishery, told IntraFish.
If approved, the company, which has offices in Miami, Panama and Ecuador, could include the MSC seal on its retail and foodservice mahi-mahi products. The eco-label is becoming more important to consumers, Walsh said.
The mahi-mahi fishery in which the AGG particpates is naturally sustainable, Walsh said.
