For the second year in a row, a high expected mackerel catch from Iceland and the Faroe Islands begs the question of whether market prices and demand will suffer as a result.
So far this year, Iceland has caught 72,000 metric tons, while the Faroe Islands has caught 44,460 metric tons. That means that they still have around 190,000 metric tons left to catch in the coming months.
Supply has also been strong from Norway, where an unusually large amount of big ‘summer mackerel’ of 500 to 600 grams on average have been caught since the beginning of the year.
