The European fisheries commission has this month put forward proposals to place a quota on bass fisheries.

So what, you might ask -- if it’s a non quota species then perhaps the stock needs management and protection.

But that’s not the problem. It is the logic which they intend to apply to share out the quota (total allowable catch -- TAC) that will infuriate fishermen in several EU Member States.
