Members of the town council of Sassnitz, Germany, have urged the country's government to block the acquisition of a controlling stake in Rügen Fisch by giant Thai Union, reported Ostsee Zeitung.
In a letter to the Department of Commerce and the Mindistry of Labor and Social Affairs, the local Social Democrat Norbert Benedict voiced his criticism, saying he "fears" for the future of Rügen.
Thai Union has been facing global criticism, he said, and has been accused of human rights abuse and slavery issues in its supply chain and processing factories.
