Changing consumer awareness, and greater availability of fresh fish could spur consumption of salmon in the Polish domestic market, Miroslaw Orzol, CEO at Limito, said.

While overall consumption of fish has declined slightly over the last few years, salmon reported dynamic growth in the domestic market, he said, reported portalspozywczy.pl.

"This bodes well for the future," he believes.

The introduction of fresh fish in MAP at discounters two to three years ago was pivotal for that development, he said.

"Customers often choose products packed in MAP, due to the ability to choose the right size and guaranteed freshness, provided through the hermetic packaging," he said.

"As a producer and one of the pioneers of such a solution we are going to strongly develop this field, we believe in this category," he said.

Polish consumers are also putting more and more focus on the quality of the products they buy -- a good sign for salmon, Orzol believes.
