While Mexican authorities have not confirmed the cause of its recent production crash, University of Arizona pathologist Donald Lightner's presentation at  the meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Aquatic Health, in Yucatán, México at end of August, leaves little doubt EMS is the cause.

Lightner named his presentation “Documentation of an Emerging Disease (Early Mortality Syndrome) in SE Asia and Mexico" and confirmed the diagnosis to Shrimp News.

Mortalities at farms in Nayarit and Sinaloa began to skyrocket in March and April, and the disease swapped over to Sonora and Baja California Sur in late May.

The
