"Recent media reference to the Icelandic mackerel fishery within the Icelandic Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as illegal is totally unfounded. It is also unfounded to speak of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing or fisheries," he said.

"Iceland is a coastal state and fisheries in the Icelandic EEZ are therefore managed by Iceland and not through the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commisson -- NEAFC.
