Although yet to be announced, the MSC is quietly laying off staff and is said to be in what some close to the organization say is a severe financial crunch.
The group is expected to name a new CEO within weeks. Brendan May, MSC’s current leader abruptly announced in March that he was leaving the organization.
And earlier this year, the group struggled to deal with the fallout of two independent audits of its eco-label program, both loaded with criticism and suggestions for improvement.
