Bumble Bee announced last week it is shutting the plant, and U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said Thursday she and Gov. John Baldacci are working to find an employer within the seafood processing industry to take over the Stinson Sardine Cannery in Prospect Harbor.
Snowe said it's also possible a company could partner with Bumble Bee to keep the facility up and running with its current number of employees.
The senator said she will meet on Tuesday with Bumble Bee CEO Chris Lischewski in a one-on-one meeting to discuss potential partners.
