The proprietor of a Kidderminster fish and chip shop was fined £3,300 (€3,560/$5,487) after trading standards officers found pangasius was being substituted for cod.
The Worcestershire County Council trading standards officers bought samples described as cod and chips from the Town Fryer, but analysis by County Scientific Services revealed the fish as Vietnamese pangasius costing half the price.
Baljit Singh Virdi, of Celeste Road, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to two offenses under the Food Safety Act at Kidderminster Magistrates last week and was ordered to pay fines and costs totaling £3,300.
