With a matter of weeks to go before a general election on April 25, polls in Iceland indicate the present caretaker regime of the Left-Green and the Social Democrats will be elected under Prime Minister Johanna Sigurdardottir.
The Independence party, which has been a dominant feature of every administration for the last 25 years, has taken a hit in opinion polls with the news that the party received contributions from investment firm Stodir, then known as FL Group, and Landsbanki in 2006 totalling more than 50 million ISK (€181,804/$241,800), days before this became unlawful.
