The Norwegian salmon adventure started in 1970 in Hitra. The brothers Sivert and Ove Grontvedt engineered 'Grontvedt-cage' and released the first smolt in spring of the same year.
Forty-five years later salmon is still farmed the same way. The cages have been updated, are now made of plastic and steel and are much larger. But the principle is the same.
