Norwegian Minister of Fisheries Elisabeth Aspaker decided to appoint a working group to consider whether land-based fish farm installations should be governed by other regulations than those used in marine cage-based farming with regard to production licenses.

In her address to the Directorate of Fisheries conference “Marine opportunities” in Oslo, Aspaker said she intends to set up a working group to look at how land-based fish farming's growth should be regulated.

“The working group will pay particular attention to considering the significance of land-based fish farming taking place on either wholly-owned or partly owned private property, and whether this should entail that the number of restrictions that apply to ordinary fish farming should not apply for licenses in land-based fish farming,” she said.
