Two decades ago, Lakeland began its business in Holmwrangle, producing 20,000 smolt its first year. Since then the Holmwrangle facility has seen production rise more than 800 percent, annually turning out some 175,000 smolt.
Lakeland, owned by Marine Farms, each year produces seven million smolt, 50 million salmon eggs, 14 million fry, and 10,000 tons of salmon.
“It began with just a few ideas really in 1987, and many of those there at the start, including me, are still with the company,” Director Paul Irving told IntraFish.
