After tough markets in 2008 and 2009 caused by oversupply and a big drop in demand because of the world economic slide, the market is readjusting in 2010, with prices back up and expected to stay firm through summer, Jeffrey Martinez-Malo, vice president of international procurement and marketing for U.S.-based International Marketing Specialists, told IntraFish.

“It’s very seasonal. The trend would be the 2010-2011 season, from the natural resource perspective, should have improved product levels. In the crabmeat industry, you normally have a strong year, then you have a light year in production,” said Martinez-Malo, who joined Massachusetts-based supplier IMS last month.
