Kona Blue will retain its hatchery operations on the west coast of the island of Hawaii, while Keahole Fish Co. will start growing kampachi, or amberjack or tropical yellowtail (Seriola rivoliana), with help initially from Kona Blue, which will keep the brand name Kona kampachi.
“We’re basically recapitalizing the offshore operation,” Todd Madsen, president of Ocean Spar, told IntraFish on Wednesday.
Kona Blue will continue to provide kampachi fingerlings from the company’s hatchery, as well as biological and research support for the offshore growout operation.
