Last week’s announcement that Alaska’s major salmon processors are crawling back to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label program is an about-face of epic proportions.

There was a lot of blather in the processors' press release about market acceptance of eco-labels and giving consumers more choice, but the real reason for the flip-flop came from Barry Collier, CEO of Peter Pan Seafoods, who said; “We project historic runs of wild Alaska salmon this year, and it is important that as many global retailers as possible have access to our abundant supply.”
