With markets moving, operation costs rising and the supply of illegal Russian crab increasing, the Alaska king crab season is shaping up to be much more exciting than quota numbers show.

On the US side of the ocean, the supply is a mixed bag, but in general has held steady. The king crab quota in Alaska’s Bristol Bay, by far the largest king crab fishery in Alaska, is 7.8 million pounds, nearly identical to last year's quota of 7.83 million pounds.

The
