Desk Editor Drew Cherry interviewed Damien Legros, sales and marketing director at the tilapia producer Lake Harvest Aquaculture in Zimbabwe. Legros said producers were forming a co-operation to create better terms and conditions for sustainable aquaculture, and even eying fair trade labels.
He also said exports of frozen tilapia and pangasius to Europe have rocketed over the past two years.
During the next seafood exposition in Brussels, Africa will be fronting up with a substantially-sized joint stand, proof that they are heading full steam ahead into the market with their farmed products, which in turn is contributing towards boosting competition between the various species.
