SSL will open the plant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, later this month, IntraFish has learned, following the opening of two additional plants in Qingdao, China, in late April.
The plant in Vietnam will initially process only cod, mainly from the Barents Sea and supplied by Ocean Trawlers, while the new workshops in Qingdao will process cod and also haddock.
Increasing demand for cod and haddock products in Europe and the United States is behind the move to increase processing capacity, said SSL Commercial Director Niclas Rydin.
