Jealsa Rianxeira -- selling under the Hacendado brand to Mercadona, Spain's largest supermarket chain -- has been slowly but surely gaining market share in Spain’s competitive canned tuna market, leaving its competition far behind despite tough economic times, said Juan Luis Alonso Escuris, operations director at Jealsa Rianxeira.
The market leader by a large margin -- commanding 48.6 percent of the Spanish tuna market, boosted by the fact it is Mercadona’s sole canned tuna supplier -- the company has its fingers in several pies, producing and distributing seafood under several brand names as well as in the private label sector in Europe, and beyond.
