Japan’s largest retailer Aeon is aiming to have 10 percent of its seafood sales certified by Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) or Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) by 2020.
The supermarket chain is the first marketer of eco-labeled seafood in Japan, and is currently using the MSC or the ASC label on 3 percent of its products.
“The promotion [of eco-labeled seafood] has gone slow so far but we will boost them without a break from now on,” said Mitsuko Tsuchiya, executive officer for Aeon Retail, at a media conference Aug.
