Kinki University is the first to succeed in raising bluefin tuna from eggs to adult. It partnered with the Panama government to cultivate yellowfin tuna, supported by The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

Last week, Panamanian officials and Japan-based Kinki University moved 240 artificially raised juvenile yellowfin tuna to an offshore pen as part of a research project to establish complete farm raising of this species, according a news site.

“We hope to raise them to adulthood in about two years,” said Yoshifumi Sawada, a professor of aquaculture at the Kinki University Fisheries Laboratory, said they expect to raise the juveniles to adulthood in about two years.
